The “Zendaya Hat Theory” is a TikTok meme referencing the infamous giant hat that Zendaya wore to a Teen Vogue party in 2014 (see this photo for reference). The trend started when TikTok user @thesnakesbloxx posted a video about the hat, vaguely suggesting that there’s some deeper meaning or conspiracy behind it. The video is edited to resemble “creepypasta” memes, and it’s meant to be a funny parody of them.
The trend quickly spread on social media at the start of May 2025, with users speculating that Zendaya might reference the hat on the 2025 Met Gala red carpet. She did end up wearing a fairly large hat to the event, which fanned the flames of the meme. Eventually, the meme evolved to become a joke about what Zendaya was hiding under the original hat, with on of the most popular “theories” being that the hat housed Zendaya’s fiancé, Tom Holland.
