In each Pokémon game, the HM Cut is hidden somewhere for you to find. You can use it to unlock hidden items and to progress in the game. In this article, we'll teach you where to find Cut in Pokémon Emerald, as well as go over which Pokémon can learn Cut. Keep reading to learn more!

Obtaining Cut in Pokémon Emerald

To get HM01 Cut, go to Rustboro City. Enter the house directly to the left of the Pokémon Center. Talk to the man sitting at the table, and he'll give you HM01 Cut. Teach Cut to a Pokémon so you can cut down the small trees blocking certain paths.

  3. He's got brown hair and a red shirt, and he's one of two people in the house. You don't need to talk to the girl standing by the sink.[1]
    • After you speak to the man, he'll give you the HM01 Cut.[2]
  4. You've probably noticed a few spots where short trees were blocking your path. With Cut, you can chop those trees down and access new areas to find items and treasure.
    • To use Cut, simply interact with the trees. You must teach Cut to a Pokémon first, however.
      • To teach a Pokémon to use Cut, open your Bag and scroll to the TMs & HMs section.
      • Scroll until you find Cut, then select Use.
      • Choose the Pokémon you want to teach Cut to.
      • Confirm that you want to teach Cut to that Pokémon.
      • Choose a move to replace, if necessary. A Pokémon can only know four moves at a time.

If you don't want to use up one of your main Pokémon's move slots on Cut, you can teach Cut to a different Pokémon that you'll temporarily add to the team when you need to cut down small trees.
