How to Find Defog in Pokémon Platinum

Go to Solaceon Town, then head north into the ruins. You must go down the staircases in the correct order to find the HM05 Defog surrounded by three other goodies. Once you have HM05 Defog, you can teach it to a Pokémon so they can lift the fog in foggy areas.

  1. It is located in central Sinnoh between Route 209 and Route 210.[1]
    • Before you can get Defog, you must have the Relic Badge.[2] The Relic Badge is obtained from the gym in Hearthome City.
  2. Go up the road that leads to Route 210 until you reach the north-most part of the town. Go behind the small wooden house on the right and continue until you run into the trees. Jump down the ledges next to the rock ledges. You will see a cave in the ledges to the right.

Using Defog

  1. If you don't want to take up a slot from one of your main Pokémon, teach Defog to a Pokémon that you'll add to your team temporarily.
    • To teach a Pokémon to use Defog, open your Bag and scroll to the TMs & HMs section.
    • Scroll until you find Defog, then select Use.
    • Choose the Pokémon you want to teach Defog to. Find a list of all the Pokémon that can learn Defog below.
    • Confirm that you want to teach Defog to that Pokémon.
    • Choose a move to replace, if necessary. A Pokémon can only know four moves at a time.
  2. To do this, open your Pokémon menu and select the Pokémon you taught Defog, then select DEFOG.
    • There are a number of spots in the game that are covered in fog, and Defog can help you navigate these areas better. However, it's generally considered an optional HM since you can technically get by without it, if you prefer.
